Designers have taken inspiration from the Scottish for one of this season's hottest trends: tartan plaid. I think it's a little overwhelming on pants, but otherwise I'm all for tartan on flannel shirts, gloves, scarves, hats, and jackets. I think adding a touch of tartan to an otherwise all black outfit can be very sophisticated and chic. Try the "schoolgirl" approach and go for a tartan print skirt with black tights and a solid long-sleeved shirt. Or even go for a tartan button-up flannel with a pair of jeans for a casual, but trendy look. There are some great winter finds that will keep you warm and cozy AND up-to-date this season.
